BUILT TRANSCENDENCE

Athens, Nea Ionia,  2025
residency Yellow Brick studio’s

Is an exhibition by Assembled Patterns during their second residency at Yellow Brick, continuing their earlier research in Athens while shifting focus to how built space reflects and produces otherness.

Across two working periods, they explored themes of locality, publicness, and architectural thresholds, inspired by Michel Foucault’s concept of heterotopias.

In their work, the mirror functions not as a tool for self-reflection but as a metaphor for multiplicity and an other-world embedded within the city. For the exhibition, the rooftop of Yellow Brick served as a public space, allowing the sounds of the surroundings to permeate the installation. A new newspaper compiled their visual material, while a sculptural piece referenced the city’s architectural elements, emphasizing heterotopic spaces.
